Hometown: Coconut Creek
Amanda Gonzalez displays a positive attitude and takes on tasks with a warm smile.
“Responsibility is a trait that is very important to me,” Amanda says. “My parents and teachers have always taught me that responsibility is a trait that everyone who wants to be successful should exhibit.”
Rebecca M. Miller, career and technical education adviser: Amanda is simply one of the sweetest young women I have ever met. She is always the first to offer a warm smile and kind words. She jumps right in to help and sees it through to completion. She is extremely responsible – as she takes on the tasks of others, if necessary, to get the job done. Key Club would not survive without her. Personally, she is one of the most genuine people I know.
Margaret Rohrbach, media specialist: Amanda is an enthusiastic member of Book Club and Women of Tomorrow. In both of these organizations, her positive attitude and ready smile help to make new members feel welcome and set the tone for our meetings. Last year, as vice president of Book Club, Amanda was my right hand, helping to run the meetings, sharing her love of reading and promoting our club. She is friendly and warm to all members and makes an effort to include everyone.
Iris Divanna, mother: Amanda has the tendency to be responsible because it is a trait that she has been taught from a very young age. Amanda has always been taught to be self-reliant. From the first day of school, she was taught to use her alarm clock, to set her clothes out for the day, and to wash up and dress before breakfast. The importance of studies and grades were also stressed and Amanda was rewarded when she met expectations and goals. Therefore, she has learned that being responsible has a positive effect on her life and others.
Amanda has been raised with these values in mind. She knows that to be successful in life, she must take responsibility for her actions and decisions. She knows that this characteristic can ultimately affect others and her in a positive or negative way. Her being responsible has given her the opportunity to move up in her work place. For example, she can now hire and train others that she deems fit. Responsibility is one of her strongest traits.
Amanda Gonzalez: I want to be successful in all my clubs and in my academics so I always plan to make sure that I get everything done in a timely fashion.
Not only must I be responsible in my school life, but also my personal life. A certain teacher at my school taught me to always stick to my promises and to never go back on my word, especially when that person is counting on me.
What motivates me to be responsible are my academics, my parents and my teachers. My academics are of priority to me. If a student is not responsible with their work and studying, then they will not be successful. Therefore, I try to be as timely and organized with all my schoolwork as I can be.
My parents are amazing examples of what responsible people look like. They have shown me what it is like to be on time and to be honest with everyone and in everything I do.
Finally, my teachers are great motivators because they have taught me that responsibility is a key characteristic that one person needs to become productive. When others notice and praise me for my accountability, it motivates me to work even harder.
When I am responsible I feel proud of myself. When I display responsibility around others I notice that they respect me more compared to others. One of my goals in life is to be appreciated for my hard work.
I believe my mentors feel proud of me when I demonstrate outstanding character because it was their teachings and advice that have made me a responsible student. My responsibility also affects the people that I have committed myself to. For example, I volunteer for organizations that assist others in need. By being responsible, I impact those people by bettering their lives.
I try my best to exhibit responsibility as often as I can. For example, when I commit myself to a club or volunteer at an event, I always arrive on time and am prepared to work. When others view you as dependable, they will respect and appreciate you more for your hard work.
