Curtain Call Playhouse travels with ‘Dial M for Murder’

When it comes to mystery, suspense and a homegrown cast, just “Dial M for Murder.”

Curtain Call Playhouse is currently traveling with this thriller that was also a classic Alfred Hitchcock film and, prior to that, a play performed on BBC television in 1952.

“The plot is based on a wife who had an affair, and her husband makes plans to murder her,” said Kris Coffelt, who stars as Margot Wendice in the show. The part was originally played on the big screen by Grace Kelly. “It takes place in the 1950s, and it’s very intriguing and it has unexpected twists and turns. She’s completely oblivious… The ending is quite a surprise.”

Director Charlie Redler stated in a press release, “There is a love affair, bribery and back stabbing.”

Coffelt, who is also artistic director and founder of Curtain Call Playhouse, said she is thrilled to be bringing the show to a variety of cities in the area. “This is our 18th season,” she said. “In our second year, there wasn’t a permanent home for us in Pompano [Beach], so we began touring and partnering with different cities to bring our shows there.”

“Playing this role is a joy for me, because this show is a classic and the play is so well written,” said Coffelt, who is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and a Pompano resident. “It’s suitable for all audiences. I hope everyone comes out to see this.”

Curtain Call just wrapped up the show at the Willow Theater at Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton, and there are 12 performances planned Sunrise, Pompano Beach and Coconut Creek.

“For our shows at the Herb Skolnick Centerin Pompano Beach,” Coffelt said, “we’re also doing dinner and a show, which is something different for people to come out and enjoy.”
