Coral Springs has imposed a 180-day moratorium on the sale of dogs and cats that come from puppy and kitten mills.
At a recent meeting, city officials unanimously approved the moratorium. City staff will return before the moratorium is lifted with recommendations on a law that will prohibit pet stores in the city from selling dogs and cars that are born in puppy and kitten mills. Many other cities in south Florida already have laws in place.
“Now that the federal court has made this law enforceable, I would like the city to move forward on the ban,” Commissioner Joy Carter said.
“We will look at all the cities and bring back what we think is the best one,” City Attorney John Hearn said.
